    centrepiece Raku

    Vintage Raku centerpiece.

    Insider:

This form of pottery making is traditional Japanese. This technique was developed in Japan in the 16th century and has become popular among potters and artists because of its rustic beauty and its connection to Zen philosophy. The word “Raku” can be translated  as “happiness through chance” or “random taste,” reflecting the spontaneous and experimental approach used in this technique.
Artists create their artworks using raw clay or fired ceramic clay. Usually, Raku artworks are objects such as cups, bowls, vases or sculptures. These creations can vary in size and shape, but often feature simple lines and minimalist designs. \n Beauty and its controlled imperfection, this Raku centerpiece reflects the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, beauty in simplicity and imperfection.
